Wim Delvoye, mixed media, 1990
With ironic ardour, Wim Delvoye walks the line of provocation and confrontation. He turns all logic upside down, thus becoming the magician of art. He subtly invalidates the social status with the earnestness of his perfect craftmanship.
‘Rose des Vents’, with a telescope diagonally through the body, symbolises the universal in man. This precursor to his Cloaca machine that produces the daily ‘portion of poop’ thereby ennobles the banal and shakes the ego of the self-assured.
